The new season will kick off on Friday 16th August with an evening fixture between Man United and Fulham at Old Trafford. It will be a game that Erik ten Hag will be aiming to win and start the season on a high. He has agreed to stay on as United boss with a new contract reported to be almost signed. Fulham defeated United 2-1 last season in the fixture and head coach Marco Silva will hope to emulate last seasons result begin their season with a valuable three points.
Newcomers, Ipswich Town will host Liverpool in the early kick off on Saturday 17th August. Liverpool will once again play in the 12.30pm game after previous boss, Jurgen Klopp, continuously raged at the amount of times his team had to play at this time last season. It will be the new era of Arne Slot that all eyes will focus on and how he will set up his side against the Tractor Boys. It was one of the fixtures that Kieran McKenna didn’t want in his Premier League debut as manager but he will approach this game with full attention and aim to upset one of the League favourites.
Fellow newcomers, Southampton, will travel north to take on Newcastle at St James Park in what will be a difficult opening for the Saints. Newcastle had significant injury problems last season and will hope to start this season in better circumstances. Arsenal will begin their hunt for a title at home to Wolves. Mikel Arteta’s men will aim to go one step further this season and beat Man City to the title. They welcome a Wolves team who will begin the season with more stability under Gary O’Neil. Last season, previous manager and new West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui left the side days before the season started.
Sean Dyche will hope his Everton side can put last season’s issue behind them and begin with a win at home to Brighton. The Seagulls will have new boss, Fabian Hurzeler, in charge as they start the season with a new project and ambition. Nottingham Forest will also hope to put last season’s problems behind them and forget about point deductions and relegation fights. They will be at home to Bournemouth who were impressive last season under Andoni Iraola. The Cherries finished twelfth last season and will hope for an improvement on this position. West Ham will entertain Champions League participants, Aston Villa, in the evening game on Saturday. New boss, Lopetegui, will begin his new role in the post Moyes era as they will hope to defeat Emery’s Aston Villa. The Villans had a brilliant season last year and qualified for the Champions League which will be a new focus for the club.
On Sunday, 18th August, Crystal Palace will travel to Brentford in the day’s early kick off. Palace ended the season in excellent fashion and boss, Oliver Glasner, will begin his first full season at the helm. He could start the season without forward Michael Olise, as he is reportedly joining London rivals Chelsea in what would be a big loss for the Eagles. Thomas Frank will be aiming to improve his side’s position from last season and bring back some positive results to the GTech Community Stadium. Champions Man City travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in what is the weekend’s biggest game. Enzo Maresca will face his former boss, Pep Guardiola in an exciting opening game to his life as Chelsea manager. City will hope to start the season as they finished it while Chelsea will need to begin the new season with a win if they are to get back to where they feel they should be.
Monday evening will see 2015/16 Premier League champions and newly promoted, Leicester City, host Tottenham Hotspur in their first game back in the English top tier. They are currently without a manager after Maresca left to join Chelsea. Spurs will hope to emulate their opening to last season as they were unbeaten in their first nine games. Spurs, however, fell away towards the end and consequently missed out on a Champions League place.
